There are less than two months to go before we celebrate our 170th-anniversary gala. In addition to celebrating this milestone, the gala will raise funds for the school’s Financial Assistance Program. The “Over the Top” Gala presented by My Father Cigars will be held at the JW Marriott Marquis on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Sponsorships, tables, and tickets are still available but going fast. Click here for more information. Moving forward, the gala will take place every five years, coinciding with significant milestone anniversaries. Do not miss the opportunity to attend this unforgettable event.
“I’m looking forward to celebrating our past but incredibly excited about what’s to come,” said Fr. Willie, S.J. ‘87. “Belen’s story began in 1854, and there’s no question that we’ve come a long way since the Jesuits were expelled from Cuba and el Colegio de Belén was taken over in 1961. The tenacity and ingenuity that led those brave Jesuits to reestablish the school just a few months after arriving in Miami is incredible. Since then, we've grown leaps and bounds. We are only improving thanks to our amazing alumni, supportive parents, great faculty and staff, and dedicated students. This gala is an opportunity to thank you in person, and I can’t wait for this extraordinary event.”
The gala committee is working hard to ensure this event exceeds all expectations. The night will benefit a worthy cause and be filled with camaraderie, great music, and delicious food. “We are incredibly grateful to the sponsors who’ve already committed to the gala; we couldn’t do it without their support,” said Becky Lowell, Corporate Engagement and Advancement Event Coordinator.
We will have a silent auction as part of the gala. The committee is looking for various items (home, beauty, travel, and experiences) for the auction. If you would like to donate or know someone who would be interested, please reach out to Becky Lowell at rlowell@belenjesuit.org.
Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
