I’ve always been a fan of Disney. Since I was a little kid, the idea of going to Disney World was so exciting that I couldn’t sleep for days knowing that we would be driving up to the Magic Kingdom.
Over the years our school has been blessed with the presence of extraordinary teachers who have contributed greatly to making Belen the special place that it is.
For the last couple of years, the Beta Club has sent support packages to troops overseas. This year, the members of the club assembled packages that included snacks, toiletries, and a blanket.

Being in a hospital is a scary and traumatic experience, especially for kids, but two Belen Jesuit students have found a way to help, and to get our community involved in the effort to ease the daily strain hospitalized children feel.

Hurricane Irma has left a lasting impression on our South Florida community. We are blessed that other than a few fallen trees and debris around our campus, Belen Jesuit fared well. On September 14, over 300 members of the Belen community came together to clean up and put things back into place on campus.

This past June, alumnus Carlos Bravo, from the class of 1986, took over as the Executive Director of the Belen Alumni Association of Jesuit Schools from Cuba and Miami.
Since 2012, Mr. Charles Cleveland, in addition to teaching, has led the Overseas Summer Program to Asia and has moderated the Matteo Ricci China Club. In the summer of 2018, he will lead the OSP Asia Pacific trip to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.

For years, the political situation in Venezuela has been deteriorating causing a humanitarian crisis that has flooded the media all over the world. Coverage of this ongoing crisis has brought to light the struggles of the Venezuelan people.
We are in the home stretch, the fundraising deadline for this year’s Belen Youth Missions Trip is May 12 and we need your help to get us over our $50,000 goal.
(Our Seniors were present in class for the last time on April 27. It brings to an end a stage in their lives which began anywhere from four to seven years ago and has defined them as Belen Jesuit students. Therefore, I would like to dedicate my reflection in this enewsletter to the Class of 2017.)

On April 8, eighty-two Civics students from Grade 8 will begin the Close Up “Founding of a Nation” experience of spending five days in the “classrooms” of Washington, Mt. Vernon, Williamsburg, Philadelphia, and the Gettysburg National Military Park.
When I started as a student at Belen Jesuit in September of 1983, I was a thirteen-year-old kid who had just left the comforts of a small parochial school and was tossed into what seemed, at first, a hostile environment made up of giant strangers.
On March 25, over 100 students from Miami-Dade county schools joined the Key Club chapter at Belen Jesuit for a youth summit on empowerment involving issues of climate change and economic development.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
