Phil Fernandez '94 | Executive Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations
Traditionally, the Annual Fund has always been viewed as a way for current parents to give back to the school and help close the gap between our tuition revenues and the higher cost of providing a top education infused with Jesuit excellence.
This year, the program has been expanded to make every member of the Belen community active stakeholders in the education of our young men and to ensure that Belen Jesuit will continue to be one of the best Catholic schools in the country.
Our first step was to engage every employee and ask them to contribute to the Annual Fund. The goal was to show that all of our employees are vested in the growth and success of our school. I’m proud to announce that faculty/staff contribution is at 100%.
Next, we approached the senior class. We explained to them that although they will be graduating soon their legacy at Belen continues. The initiative is to teach them about giving back to their alma mater by making a simple annual donation in the amount of their class year - $20.17.
The Alumni Association plays a significant and important role in the enhancement of our brotherhood beyond graduation. Currently, we are connecting with our alumni and informing them of the transition from Alumni Dues to the Annual Fund. Our goal is to engage every alumnus and encourage them to contribute.
The collective support of this campaign gives Belen the flexibility to support various initiatives. Virtually no aspect of our school, from arts, athletics, technology upgrades, to faculty development are left untouched by Annual Fund contributions. Gifts help control tuition levels in order to continue to make our school accessible to families of all financial levels. Annual Fund gifts are 100% tax deductible.
If you aren’t giving already to the Annual Fund, please consider making your gift on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) or a onetime gift can be easily made by visiting, www.belenjesuit.org/annualfund or alumni can give at www.belenjesuit.org/alumnigiving. Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
