OSP Europe to travel to Ireland and Scotland

Patrick Collins | Social Studies Department
The 2017 Overseas Study Program to Switzerland and Italy brought together lasting experiences from the Swiss Alps to the Roman catacombs.
The 78 students, family members, alumni, and teachers marveled at the Leaning Tower of Pisa, rode a gondola in Venice, crossed paths with fellow Jesuit-educated Dwyane Wade at Santa Croce in Florence, visited the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, toured the headquarters of St. Ignatius in Italy, celebrated Mass at Gesu Church, and topped the trip off with a farewell banquet in Rome.

The 2018 OSP will be to Ireland and Scotland June 12-21.  Detailed plans are in place for 10 days of experiences to enhance the Belen curriculum and for grand memories of travel in the Overseas Study Program tradition. For details about the summer program to Ireland and Scotland attend the Information Meeting on Thursday, September 21 for details at 7 p.m. in the Cosculluela Hall.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
