Belen Youth Missions Registration Set to Open

Mirna Menendez | BYM Coordinator
Registration for the annual Belen Youth Missions Trip to the Dominican Republic will begin on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 9 a.m.
Any student interested in attending this year’s mission trip must complete the online registration, http://www.belenjesuit.org/bymapplication.  Registration is limited to 60 current Belen Jesuit juniors and seniors and is conditional on the students’ academic and disciplinary records. Alumni interested in attending are encouraged to complete the application.

Students will travel to the D.R. June 29- July 8 to build a bridge and provide necessary supplies to a needy village/community. Father Willie, Science Teacher Gehovanny Perez, a few alumni, and I will accompany the students. Everyone who completes the application is required to attend a mandatory meeting on Monday, January 29 immediately after school in the Dining Hall.

BYM has been traveling to the Dominican Republic for 36 years. This is a highly anticipated experience for juniors, and as such, it quickly fills up. Please complete the online application as soon as it opens. In addition to the construction work, daily Mass, meals as a community, and playing games with the locals, ensures that the missionaries establish bonds with one another that will last a lifetime.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
