Coach Stuart Tribute

Carlos Bravo '86 | Alumni Association Executive Director
On November 2, the Belen community gathered to honor a very special individual who embodies the true Belen spirit - Coach Richard Stuart.

Coach Stuart stepped down as the head football coach after 34 years on March 27, 2017. The current, winningest coach in Miami-Dade County history with 224 wins, Stuart was honored with a reception that included many past football players. The tribute night included taped messages from football alumni and present and past coaches who shared wonderful memories from the times they spent with Stuart on the field.

He has been a role model to all his players and students and embodies what it truly means to be a “Man for Others.” Thank you Coach Stuart for your kindness, passion, patience, and the love you have for the game, your players, and Belen Jesuit.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
