Crew Team Wins 26 Medals

Ian O'Flaherty | Belen Crew Booster Club
Under cloudy skies, a brisk wind, and chilly temperatures, the Belen Jesuit Crew team participated in the Plant Invite - Fall Sprints 2017 on December 9.
The Plant Invite is a contest involving 13 Florida schools and clubs competing in Tampa.  Our Wolverines entered a total of 31 boats in the Varsity, Freshmen, and Middle School categories. After fierce and fast competition throughout the day, with some rowers having to "hot seat" from one boat to another, Belen finished with 26 medals. The total of 15 gold, 10 silver, and 1 bronze, were earned by rowers in every grade from 6 through 12.

Congratulations to the rowers and coaches, and many thanks to all the alumni, parents, and grandparents who traveled to support of our team. The next competition is the Novice Regatta on February 3, 2018.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
