Christian Life Communities

Roberto E. Artiz | Director of Campus Ministry
Fifteen students made their commitment to the Christian Life Communities (CLC) on March 13 during a special Mass as part of Ignatian Week. CLC is a worldwide community of men and women who choose to follow Christ more closely. It traces its roots to St. Ignatius of Loyola. The community began in 1563 in Rome, when a young Jesuit, John Leunis, gathered a groups of lay students at the Roman College to help them unite their lives, jobs, studies, families, and relationships with Christian values. The movement, originally called the Sodality of Our Lady, grew and was confirmed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1584.

Today there are thousands of Sodalities- CLC’s- worldwide, with millions of members. These young men are lucky to have been called to this community, which is why a Mass was celebrated to commemorate the occasion and give thanks to God for the graces they have received through their faithful membership in this community.

The Belen community is asked to pray for each one of these students so that they receive the graces necessary to live up to this commitment. Click here to view the photo album.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
