Sad Day for Belen Jesuit

Jose E. Roca '84 | Principal
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Vince Fernandez.
For 18 years, Vince has been a member of the Belen Jesuit family. His commitment to the school was only surpassed by his love and devotion to it and its students. As the Director of Basketball Operations and as a coach, he was an invaluable asset to the basketball program. As a substitute teacher, his dedication to the students, no matter the subject, was inspiring.

Please keep Vince’s family in your prayers, especially his son Anthony ’06, his daughter Nicole, his longtime girlfriend Debbie and her children Victoria and Nicholas. This is a very sad day for the Belen community and may we always remember his wonderful smile, caring personality and loving heart.

The funeral arrangements will be held on Monday, January 15 at the Roberto Goizueta Athletic Center at Belen Jesuit. The viewing will be at 11 a.m. followed by Mass at 1 p.m.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
