Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Congratulations to sophomores Nicolas Arrieta, Juan Diego Leanez, Maximo Anderson, and Ernesto Diaz for being chosen to represent Belen Jesuit at The Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminars. These ambassadors will attend 3-4 day seminars in the spring and summer and have the opportunity to explore their leadership skills and values while practicing those skills and collaborating with diverse groups.

“This year, we had a lot of wonderful candidates to choose from, and I’m very proud of everyone who applied,” said Valentina Vernet, Sophomore School Counselor. “This opportunity will allow these students to be able to expand their programs/ideas and increase their impact in our community,”

“These young men embody the spirit of the Magis in everything they do,” said José E. Roca '84, Principal. “This opportunity will inspire and shape them into exceptional leaders. I wish them the very best as they continue to pursue excellence in all their endeavors.”

HOBY has inspired young people to make a difference and become catalysts for positive change in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities for more than five decades. As America’s foremost youth leadership organization, HOBY has a long history of successfully motivating young people to develop into outstanding leaders.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
