“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”

Jose E. Roca '84 | Principal
We are excited to once again showcase, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” at the Roca Theater.
The musical was first performed during the 2007-2008 academic year. Our thespians have been rehearsing since December and are eager to perform for the Belen community.

The award-winning musical is considered among one of the best of Broadway. The collaboration of Burt Shevelove, Larry Gelbart and Stephen Sondheim, a trio of aces, resulted in a unique creation never to be repeated. Their ability to weave a tale, combined with extraordinary music, brings to life a vaudevillian farce that has received countless accolades. We are fortunate to present such a masterpiece in our own Roca Theater.

I was fortunate to watch a special preview of the show, and, although the performances are stellar, I did want to advise you of our PG-13 rating. The musical touches on themes of love, lost and found, which includes innuendo and double entendres. Therefore, parents are strongly cautioned as some material may not be suitable for children under 13.

The show’s director, Mr. Francisco Padura, has worked tirelessly to ensure a great show. I hope you are able to make it to one of our performances. Show times include: March 2 at 3:30 p.m., March 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m., March 5 at 3 p.m., March 9 through 11 at 7:30 p.m. and March 12 at 3 p.m. The tickets are General Admission, and the price for all performances is $20.00. Tickets can be purchased on-line, http://seatyourself.biz/belenjesuit or in the ICA Office.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
