Troupe 4666 Captures Big Win at State Festival

Fifteen members of Belen’s Troupe 4666 of the International Thespian Society competed in the State Thespian Festival March 15-19 in Tampa, FL.
Senior Danny Martinez secured an excellent rating for monologues.  Juniors Placido Valdes and Daniel Ferro, sophomores Sion Bissessor and Jose Garcia-Chirino, Beltran Ulloa, and freshman Kristian Perez garnered an excellent rating in ensemble acting.
 
Seniors Oscar Berlanga, Javier Mederos, and Gus Gonzalez along with sophomore Andres Larrea captured a perfect score and superior rating in Small Group Musical.  While in Duet Acting, the teams of sophomore Dustin Duprey and Kristian Perez, as well as the team of Gus Gonzalez and Javier Mederos captured critics’ choice (top honors) and performed in the 2,610 seat Morsani Hall to close out the festival performances.
 
“Congratulations for over 20 years of going to the state championship and excelling,” said Matthew Jordan, Inter Club Council Coordinator. “Special congratulations to the troupe and their directors Pancho Padura and Leo Williams.”

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
