Annual Book Fair Starts Soon

Alina Alpizar | Interim Library Director
Preparations are underway for the Ramón Guiteras Memorial Library staff to host the first annual Books & Books book fair beginning May 8.
This weeklong event is aimed at showcasing current and on trend books, as well as those required summer reading books. Our goal is also to emphasize the fun in reading by proving hundreds of titles to choose from.

Mother’s Day is on May 14 and we will be offering several options just for mom. Necklaces will be on-sale with net proceeds of each sale going to the Belen Youth Missions trip. Beautiful orchids will also be sold for $20.

The book fair will open each day from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and features a wide range of books for young teens and adults, including mystery and adventure novels, fantasy trilogies, sports guides, and the latest bestsellers from an array of publishers. Parents, students, and teachers are encouraged to attend.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
