This Belen Jesuit Crew participated in the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, Tennessee on November 4 and 5.
This regatta is considered one of the world’s largest and competitive rowing regattas with 2,000+ boats racing over two days. Participants came from all over the United States, Europe, and Australia.
The Wolverines arrived in Chattanooga with 22 entries including the freshmen team. Expectations were high for this up and coming boat. The freshmen team dedicated its race to Beatriz, the newborn daughter of Coach Yasser born on November 3.
The Saturday competition saw Belen Jesuit Crew prove its resilience placing top 10 in every race they participated, including winning gold in the sophomore led Men's Youth Novice 8+!
Belen also had a spectacular showing on Sunday, again placing a boat in the top 10 of every race they participated in, and in the process, hauling in 2 gold medals (Men’s Youth Novice 8+ and Men’s Youth Lightweight 8+) and a bronze medal (Men’s Youth Lightweight 4+).
Coach Yunian was pleased as the great performances were spread out over all high school grades, setting the stage for a solid spring season and a strong future for Belen Crew. Congratulations to all participating athletes in an extremely competitive regatta, and a huge thank you to all parents, family, and friends for their unwavering support!

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
