Crew Medals at SRAA Championships

Nicolas Roca ’16 | Communication Intern
On May 26 the Crew team participated in the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship Regatta in Camden, New Jersey where 183 of the nation’s top rowing programs congregated for the two-day regatta. The team medaled in half of the events it participated winning the gold medal in the Lightweight 8+ for the fourth year in a row. The team also won two silvers and one bronze medal.

“The level of competition at this year’s Scholastic was as high as I’ve ever seen. We are all very proud of our rowers, regardless of whether or not they medaled,” said Yunian Cabrera, head crew coach. “The silver lining is that this regatta will make some of our rowers hungrier, which bodes well for next season. Plus, some of them will have another opportunity in two weeks.”

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
