Nicolas Roca ’16 | Communication Intern
On May 31, during the final assembly of the school year, the Belen Jesuit community recognized Dr. Thomas de Quesada ’94 for his 21 years of service to the school. Student Council President Luciano Bettocchi ’19, School President Jesuit Father Willie Garcia-Tuñon ’87 and School Principal Mr. Jose E. Roca ’87 highlighted some of his greatest achievements and qualities during his tenure at Belen.

“When I had to look for a Dean of Men, I realized that he was someone I hoped our graduates would resemble after their years at Belen. This is the reason I chose Mr. DQ as Dean back then when I was Principal, and when I came back as President, I asked him to go back to that position knowing, full well that he had the qualities to fill any position in the administration. I wanted him as the Dean of Men particularly because of the standard he set for all the students,” said Father Willie.

Along with the heartfelt words Mr. DQ was gifted a blanket with the Fairfield Prep logo on one side and the Belen logo on the other. He was also given a plaque with a varsity letter and a Fairfield Prep polo with a Belen B emblazoned on the inside of the shirt to symbolize, that even though he will be at Fairfield Prep, Belen will always be in his heart.

“I would like to thank my colleagues, my Belen family, who I do not thank enough for their support. Every Monday morning, no matter how big the challenge may be, I always look forward to working by their side,” said Mr. DQ.

Mr. DQ will continue to serve as a Jesuit educator at Fairfield Prep in Connecticut where he will start as Principal next academic year.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
