Athletic Facility Coming Soon

Fr. Willie ‘87 | President
(This message was originally emailed to the Belen Jesuit school community on April 21, 2021.)

It is with great pleasure that I announce that the Miami-Dade County Commissioners unanimously approved our plan to build a new athletic facility and additional on-campus parking. This morning, at the commission meeting, surrounded by a group of students, alumni, and members of the Belen community, our architect Carlos Huembes, attorney Ben Fernández ‘82, and José Gonzalez ‘91 presented to the commissioners our proposal.

In addition to the athletic facility and parking, a covered walkway over the bridge connecting the second floor of the main building to the Roberto C. Goizueta Innovation Center was approved. Needless to say, this is exciting news for the whole Belen community and puts us a step closer to completing our goals laid out in our Strategic Plan.

The athletic facility will be built over the outdoor basketball courts, currently being used for additional lunch space. This new building will not only benefit our student-athletes, but all students and faculty. Our plan is to have it completed during the 2022-23 school year.

I am grateful to all who have already pledged their gift to the Annual Fund for Belen. Together we are strengthening our campus and ensuring that Belen Jesuit will continue its tradition of providing a premier Catholic, Jesuit education. We can’t do it without your support! Please join us in forging the future ‘men for others’ by making your commitment today! Parents, as you know, the Parent Challenge is underway. Click here to make your gift and help us reach our goal.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s a great time to be a Wolverine!

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
